The SUBWAY restaurant chain recently opened its 25,000th location worldwide, reaffirming its status as a global leader in the quick service restaurant industry. The milestone was reached with the opening of 17 new locations across the U.S., including inside a Phillips 66 convenience store in El Paso, TX and an Exxon convenience store in Franklin, CT-two of the more than 5,000 locations that make up SUBWAY’s "non-traditional" channel of trade. The chain’s 25,000 location milestone also coincides with SUBWAY being once again named the number one franchise opportunity by Entrepreneur magazine in their 2006 Franchise 500 listing. This marks the 14th time in 18 years that the chain has achieved this honor. The SUBWAY brand has grown in popularity by offering low start up costs, ease of operation and healthier menu options, allowing it to open more than 2,400 new locations and add nearly 900 new franchisees to its ranks in 2005.
