The Ulster, N.Y., Town Board has granted site plan approval for QuickChek Inc. to build a gas station, convenience store and car wash at the current site of a Mobil gas station and food mart.

The approval did not include any action on modifying the intersection where the new business will stand, according to Daily (N.Y.) Freeman. The QuickChek business will include a 7,540-square-foot store, eight fueling islands, two diesel pumps and a 1,183-square-foot car wash. The fueling pumps will be covered by a 6,016-square-foot canopy.

This will be the third store in the Empire State for Whitehouse, N.J.-based QuickChek. Two other New York convenience stores — one in New Windsor and one in Florida, N.Y. — are scheduled to open in spring 2007.

The Mobil operation is to be torn down to make room for the new business. Project Manager Paul Going told the newspaper the demolition probably would occur in the spring.

The QuickChek site will have four underground fuel tanks – two with capacities of 12,000 gallons each and two that can hold 20,000 gallons each.

The company is also looking to get approval to build a fourth New York store in Kingston, but it’s reportedly meeting resistance from local neighborhood groups.
