Clean up efforts continue after a fire damaged a Pilot Travel Center last week in Barstow, Calif., according to the Desert Dispatch.
The fire apparently started shortly after midnight in a clothes dryer on the west side of the store, Barstow Fire Protection Division Chief Sal Corrao.
The total damage has been estimated up to $1 million, which includes damage to the property and items lost in the fire. According to Corrao, the building was not completely destroyed and could be salvaged.
Firefighter crews spent over two hours battling the fire. During the course of the blaze, gas tanks were secured and were under no threat of catching fire, according to Ryan Hanify, a firefighter from the MCLB department, who further confirmed that the flames were limited to just the store building.
A spokesman for Pilot said a construction inspector is en route to the store to determine the extent of the damage.
