Not only has 7-Eleven become the largest c-store chain in the world, but now it’s considered the most common store in the world, according to the Star-Telegram in Texas.
The chain, which just celebrated its 80th birthday, has surpassed QSR giant McDonald’s as being the most recognizable chain in the world by sporting the largest amount of locations worldwide. The chain currently operates—whether through ownership or franchise—32,711 stores in 15 countries. While McDonald’s reaches more people by having chains spread across 100 countries, the chain operates fewer stores, with the current count reaching 31,062. Subway came in third with 27,000 locations.
The chain credited its success to aggressively reaching out and expanding in new territories. Company CEO Joe DePinto said in a statement that there’s still plenty of room for the chain to grow.
