Sun Mart and the Mid-Columbia Reading Foundation, located in Kennewick, Wash., are teaming up to raise money to donate books to children
During the month of August, area customers can buy a card for a dollar at all Sun Mart gas stations. Customers can then send those cards and a donation to the Mid-Columbia Reading Foundation, which will use the donations to buy books. For every card sold, a book will be given to a child in the area.
“We have eighteen locations here, locally in the Tri-Cities, all competing against each other to try to raise the most amount of money for this great organization. So come on down here and support a great cause,” Chris Eerkes, sales manager for Sun Mart, told local news station KNDO/KNDU.
Sun Mart was able to raise around $2500.00 just in the first week. Last year the chain raised $6,500.00 total, and hope to surpass that and raise more than $10,000 this year. The reading foundation hopes to give away around 30,000 books this year.
