McLane Co. Inc. has bought the former building of an oil field manufacturing company in Alice, Texas, to use as a dispatch center for its distribution services.
Trucks coming in from the distributor’s Temple, Texas headquarters already loaded will arrive at the dispatch center where 10 drivers will deliver the products to their destinations in four of the distributor’s Texas markets.
Ruben Aguillon, human resource director for the McLane Company, said Alice was selected because of its central geographical location and proximity to the areas McLane services, according to the Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller Times. Among its larger clients are Corpus Christi-based Stripes convenience stores and Wal-Mart.
Aguillon said he did not know how much of an investment McLane Company was making on the facility, but did say the company was hiring 10 drivers for the 28-foot trucks. Salaries for the 10 drivers range from $47,000 to $48,000 a year, he said. The dispatch center is expected to open Jan. 27.
McLane employs 15,000 people nationwide and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
