Tulsa, Okla.-based QuikTrip, owner and operator of nearly 500 c-stores, is commemorating its 50th anniversary by shelling out more than half the $2.5 million to $3 million cost of the new plaza and playground at a park in Tulsa, the Tulsa World News reported.
QuikTrip President Chet Cadieux told the newspaper he began brainstorming for ways to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, and wanted to give something back to the community. The company philanthropic activities are part of its core values, and it traditionally donates 5% of its profits to local charities each year.
QuikTrip will “adopt” part of the Tulsa River Parks area to build a signature plaza and playground “designed to be an innovative outdoor environment” for children and families, the newspaper said, adding that the project’s plan was two years in the making. It will open in September.
Cadieux’s father, Chester Cadieux, was a former longtime member of Tulsa’s River Parks Authority and was instrumental in the park’s growth since the early 1980s.
The remaining funds for the project will come from other donors.
