Pennsylvania-based Sheetz has renewed a contract with Kronos Incorporated that will continue to provide selection and hiring solutions for the retailer’s 350 stores in six states.
According to Kronos, Sheetz had been using a paper-based system since it was founded more than 50 years ago, but as the company grew it found the system to be outdated and inefficient.
“Besides being incredibly time-consuming to wade through, paper applications collected at individual store locations provided us with little insight into the big picture in terms of our hiring strategy,” said Susan Schwaderer, manager of human resources administration at Sheetz. “With Kronos, we have visibility into applicant flow at all locations so we can focus our recruiting efforts where they need to be. In addition, we have a pool of applicants always at the ready when we need to make a hire.”
The selection and hiring solution, part of Kronos for Retail, automates the hiring process by providing organizations with technology that quickly identifies high-quality candidates and brings them into the organization.
In addition, the solution offers reporting tools and consulting services that provide organizations with vital information to optimize hiring decisions and the overall quality of their workforce.
“The biggest benefit in using Kronos has been the incredible information we are able to pull from the system,” Schwaderer said. “In the last year, we’ve had more than 130,000 people apply to work at Sheetz.
“Using the Kronos system, we’ve been able to easily track how they learned about the job opening; when, where, and how they applied; and exactly where they are within the hiring process, i.e. interviewing, assessing, awaiting drug/background verification,” Schwaderer said. “This information is invaluable as we develop and execute our recruiting strategy.”
Steve Earl, director of marketing for Kronos’ Talent Management Divisions, said the system enables managers to hire better people faster.
“By using the selection and hiring solution from Kronos, Sheetz has enabled its store managers to spend less time finding, interviewing, and hiring employees,” Earl said. “Now managers can spend more time on the store floor serving customers and providing the high-level of customer service that Sheetz is known for.”
Sheetz employs more than 11,000 workers at more than 350 locations in six states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. Kronos serves customers in more than 50 countries.
