Charitable donations by Rutter’s Farm Stores over the past six years has amounted to $1.875 million, including $475,000 in 2008, the company announced at an annual holiday banquet.
While the banquet was held in honor of Rutter’s employees, the employees actually brought more than 250 toys to the event and donated them to two local charities.
Almost all of the Rutter’s contributions benefit children’s programs in the communities where York-based Rutter’s operates.

“These are tough economic times, and the budgets of non-profit organizations certainly are feeling pinched,” said Scott Hartman, president of Rutter’s Farm Stores. “That’s why at Rutter’s we feel it’s all the more important for all of us to help out, so that these valuable organizations can continue to provide so many beneficial services.
