York, Pa.-based Rutter’s Farm Stores is teaming up with the nonprofit Support Our American Recruits (SOAR) to send Valentine’s Day boxes to soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Rutter’s and SOAR plan to send approximately 50 boxes overseas. Each box contains enough goodies to treat a military unit of 15 to 20 people, which means anywhere from 750 to 1,000 soldiers could receive gifts.
Residents in Rutter’s market areas who have a loved one serving in one of the three countries should submit the soldier’s name by Tuesday, Jan. 20 to SOAR Executive Director Becky Bair (717-235-2766 or [email protected]).
The organizations are filling requests on a first-come, first-served basis.
The boxes are being filled with items including salted snacks, candy, chewing gum and Valentine’s Day cards, and a number of Rutter’s vendors have donated items for the boxes.
SOAR (www.supportouramericanrecruits.com) was founded in York County, Pa. Its mission is to support troops serving at home and overseas, honor veterans and provide a support group for family members of the troops.
Family-owned and third generation-managed, York County-based Rutter’s operates 55 convenience stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania.
