Exxon Mobil Corporation announced that the company and 650 of its Dallas-area employees and retirees have pledged more than $1.5 million in contributions to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas as a part of the 2008 campaign.

ExxonMobil has donated more than $8.7 million to the Dallas-area United way since 2002. In addition to providing financial support, more than 200 ExxonMobil employees volunteered their time at 12 North Texas nonprofit agencies during the United Way’s Day of Caring.

ExxonMobil employees have made up one of the largest single corporate volunteer groups in the Day of Caring. Activities have included serving lunch and dinner to the homeless at The Salvation Army; spending time with elderly clients at Senior Source; and reading books and newscasts for the visually impaired at Reading and Radio Resource.

ExxonMobil employees also volunteered at Camp Summit, Child Care Group, Citizens Development Center, Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center, GRACE, Nexus Recovery Center, PediPlace, St. Philip’s School and Community Center, and Special Care and Career Services.

The agencies are also eligible to receive grants from ExxonMobil through the corporation’s Volunteer Involvement Program, which encourages employees, retirees and other eligible participants to actively contribute their time and talent to nonprofit organizations by providing contributions on the employees’ behalf.

The 2008 campaign results were a slight increase over 2007, when ExxonMobil raised more than $1.4 million for the United Way in Metropolitan Dallas and Tarrant counties. ExxonMobil employees volunteered nearly 22,000 hours in the DFW area during 2007, resulting in more than $234,000 in grants awarded to area organizations through the Volunteer Involvement Program.
