Kum & Go L.C. collected $95,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) during its 2010 sneaker campaign.
In March, customers at Kum & Go stores were asked if they would like to purchase a paper sneaker for $1 to support JDRF. Customers donated more than $85,000 and Kum & Go added to the total contribution.
“We are excited by the generosity of our customers and their support of JDRF,” said Kyle Krause, Kum & Go president and CEO. “Kum & Go strongly believes in helping young people in the communities we serve. This is a great organization and cause that the entire company was happy to support.”
Stores in Springfield, Mo; Clear Lake, Iowa; Rifle, Colo; Council Bluffs, Iowa and Garner, Iowa were the top five fundraising stores.
“We are thrilled with the partnership between Kum & Go and JDRF,” said Mary Hunter, JDRF Greater Iowa/South Dakota Chapter executive director. “We want to thank both the associates selling the sneakers and the wonderful customers who supported them by purchasing the sneakers. Kum & Go stores blew us away with the amount of sneakers they were able to sell to raise money for valuable type 1 diabetes research.”
The contribution is expected to help fund research to cure type 1 diabetes. The Central Iowa Walk program, which Kum & Go sneaker sales are a segment of, is more than 96% efficient. JDRF as a national organization is over 85% efficient with the funds entrusted to it.
The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
