Kum & Go’s “Name Our Cup” Contest winner has been announced. Brad Gerndt of Nevada, Iowa won for his entry name Go Kup.

“We are excited to have a name for our 32-ounce fountain cups—Go Kup,” said Kevin Krause, senior vice president of Kum & Go, which operates more than 435 convenience stores in 11 states. “It’s great that Brad Gerndt is such a loyal customer who knew enough about Kum & Go to submit a name that fit the cup perfectly, and it’s wonderful that our customers voting online agreed.”

Over one million, 32-ounce fountain drink cups will be used in Kum & Go’s stores and feature Gerndt’s winning name entry. Gerndt’s name was randomly drawn from eligible Go Kup entries that were received as part of the “Name Our Cup” Contest.

Gerndt was presented with a $10,000 check at the Kum & Go Store at 141 S. Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines. From 10-11 a.m. on Sept. 28, this particular Kum & Go store offered free 32-ounce fountain drinks to customers to celebrate the winning Go Kup name.

“I am unbelievably excited that Go Kup was voted the winner and my entry was drawn by Kum & Go. The $10,000 check could not have come at a better time,” said Gerndt. “I came up with the name ‘Go Kup’ because it supports the company’s brand and Go Kup also just sounds so nice…almost like a cheer for the company.”

Gerndt stops at his neighborhood Kum & Go store almost daily for coffee in the morning and/or fountain soda in the afternoon. He frequently uses a refillable mug for environmental benefits.

Customers were asked to submit names online from May 1-June 30. Each week, a name was drawn and the winner received a $250 gift card. After all the submissions were received, customers voted on the “Top Five” names online throughout the month of July. Due to multiple “Go Kup” submissions, a winner was drawn randomly from the eligible pool entries.

Gerndt has big plans for the winnings, including making contributions to churches and charitable organizations, paying bills, investing a portion, helping his son with college and assisting his daughter who has a disability in her wish to take college courses. He will also receive free 32-ounce fountain drinks for a year.
