To commemorate Remembrance Day and as the latest element of the We Salute Our Heroes initiative to honor and aid Canadian troops, Mac’s convenience stores are rewarding customers with a free bag of popcorn, The Province reported.
Customers who enter any Canada-based Mac’s Convenience Store from Manitoba to B.C. today will receive one large, 190-gram bag of HevyD’s Old Fashioned Kettle Korn absolutely free.
The We Salute Our Heroes program was created by the Vancouver Province’s deputy editor Fabian Dawson and HevyD’s president Barry Stecyk and involves the writing, recording and distribution of the video and song “Standing Strong And True (For Tomorrow),” featuring nearly 30 Canadian country artists plus the We Salute Our Heroes digital Memorial Wall (www.wesalute ourheroes.ca). All proceeds go to the Military Families Fund and Boomer’s Legacy.
The campaign now also includes this one-day, massive giveaway of 34,200 bags of popcorn, 120 bags per Mac’s store, across Western Canada.
“We worked overtime a whole week to get that order out. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and generosity that Mac’s have shown towards our military,” said Stecyk. “We did a program last year to honor the veterans. We gave a free cup of coffee to any veteran, anybody wearing a poppy.”
“Given what’s been instituted with the digital Memorial Wall and the song, this was definitely the way to go for us,” added Ron Thompson, marketing manager for Mac’s Convenience Stores, Western Canada.
