A proposed rule to reduce sulfur and other chemicals in gasoline, could reduce U.S. gasoline supplies.
Last week, a bipartisan group of almost 70 lawmakers sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), urging EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to weigh the costs and benefits of a costly proposed rule to reduce sulfur and other chemicals in gasoline.
The controversial new specifications are commonly referred to as “Tier 3” gasoline specifications.
EPA is expected to release the proposed rule early next year and possibly issue a final rule before the end of 2012.
PMAA, the Petroleum Marketers Association of America, agrees with the members of Congress that the proposed regulations could reduce U.S. gasoline supplies and the EPA should carefully analyze the scientific data and the costs and benefits before moving forward.
