Ayers Oil is set to open its 16th travel plaza by the end of June. The company has also partnered with Steak ‘n Shake, which will be attached to the new convenience store.
Ayers Oil President Steve Ayers said his company had the “unique opportunity” to join Steak ‘n Shake after meeting with a vice president of franchising for Steak ‘n Shake.
“We hadn’t had much luck in getting a franchise before,” Ayers said. “We’ve got a Dairy Queen in Hamilton, Mo., but never had a fast food operation before.”
Ayers said the 7,200 square foot area will mostly be used for the gas station and convenience store, and 2,400 square feet will be for the restaurant. The c-store will offer cigarettes, soft beverages, a walk-in cooler and beer items.
Construction already began on the store’s site. The Steak ‘n Shake half of the business will open by June 28. Ayers said he wants the convenience store and gas station half to open earlier than that.“We think it’ll be ready quicker,” he said.
Both businesses are expected to bring about 80 jobs to the Canton, Mo. area.
Ayers said he already runs a smaller, older Ayerco location in downtown Canton. Even though the new store will be close by, he said he has no current plans to shut down the old store.
