23rd annual MDA Golf Tournament brings in $23,000.
CITGO Petroleum Corp. and Bellman Oil helped members of the North Liberty community raise more than $23,000 for children affected by neuromuscular diseases at the 23rd Annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Golf Tournament at Whispering Pines Golf Course on June 18.
“We look forward to raising money for this important cause at such a fun event every year,” said Tom Fair, accounts manager at Bellman Oil. “For 23 years we have been able to provide much needed support for muscular dystrophy awareness, but we could not do it alone. The support of the local community, as well as our partners and sponsors, gives us the opportunity to truly make a difference for those children who need our help the most.”
The funds raised through the golf tournament make a grand total of more than $41,000 raised by Bellman Oil for MDA this year alone. The proceeds will go toward the support and well-being of families in Northern Indiana. This particular event helps provide those families with access to MDA clinics, follow-up care, support groups and summer camps.
“CITGO is proud to support Bellman Oil in this venture for the past 23 years,” said Alan Flagg, general manager light oils marketing for CITGO. “It is truly amazing when a community can come together to support such a worthy cause. The mission of MDA is close to our hearts at CITGO and every year we are thrilled that Bellman Oil is able to raise money to help so many families in the North Liberty community.”
Bellman Oil started off the 2013 fundraising season with the sale of paper shamrocks between February and March. The program occurred at Bellman Oil retail locations throughout Northern Indiana and helped raise more than $11,000. The company continued its fundraising efforts on June 15 at the ninth annual 5K “Spud Run” and “Fun Walk” at the Potato Creek Festival. This event helped raise $6,000 for MDA, bringing this year’s total well past last year’s record-breaking number.
CITGO is committed to giving back to the local communities it serves through its network of locally owned stations. CITGO Marketers and Retailers in Indiana own and operate nearly 100 CITGO locations and are proud to support their communities, including North Liberty.
CITGO is the largest corporate sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, having raised more than $150 million since 1986.
