Inaugural “Swing for Hope” Golf Tournament benefits American Cancer Society.
Gulf Oil LP announced that the Gulf Oil Giving Foundation’s inaugural Swing for Hope Golf Charitable Tournament has raised over $100,000 for breast cancer research and awareness.
The event was held on Monday, May 19 as part of Gulf’s 2014 Brand Meeting and Trade Show, and was a success thanks to the participation of Gulf dealers and partners from across the nation.
The Gulf Oil Giving Foundation organized and hosted the tournament in national partnership with The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program. In return for their generosity, golfers enjoyed a full day of activities at the elite TPC Summerlin championship golf course in Las Vegas. Foursomes from all corners of the U.S. not only played on the same course where Tiger Woods earned his first professional victory, they were provided with memorable and fun experiences at every hole, and celebrated their part in fighting breast cancer during a cocktail reception and awards ceremony. All proceeds will directly benefit the Making Strides cause by funding research, and those affected by breast cancer.
“On behalf of the American Cancer Society, I would like to extend thanks to Gulf and everyone involved for the incredible success of the first “Swing for Hope” tournament,” said Mary Davis, senior director of distinguished giving for the American Cancer Society. “We are extremely grateful to the Gulf Oil Giving Foundation for all of the help and support we receive throughout the year, and this donation will truly help us in our breast cancer research and awareness efforts.”
Among the many Gulf-affiliated companies and organizations who sponsored and contributed to the tournament was Bouchard Transportation, the nation’s largest independently owned ocean-going petroleum barge company, which distinguished itself by stepping forward to be the Co-title Sponsor of the event.
“As part of celebrating Gulf’s rich heritage and 100 years of service this week during our 2014 Brand Meeting and Trade Show, we wanted to make a real difference for the millions of customers we have across the country,” said Rick Dery, senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer for Gulf. “Our work in support of the fight to end breast cancer is an important way we can all give back to them, and help make their lives and their families’ lives better.”
The Gulf Oil Giving Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, which supports breast cancer research and awareness programs.
