Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ranked as the top favorite candy for Halloween last year.
According to a national survey conducted by The Hershey Co., eight in 10 consumers purchase Halloween candy every year, but few people wait for trick-or-treat to break open the bag.
In fact, 53% of consumers who purchased Halloween candy immediately put it in a bowl or cupboard. Almost half (44%) of consumers also made homemade treats, the most popular options being cookies and cupcakes.
So what filled most candy bowls last Halloween season? Hershey products. Consumers ranked Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as the top favorite candy for Halloween last year. Of consumers who purchased candy for Halloween, 91% of purchases were chocolate candy and 43% were sugar candy, with some consumers buying a mix of both varieties.
