MAPCOPAYPALHoliday travel isn’t easy, just ask the two million Tennesseans—as reported by AAA—who drove last year to spend time with friends and family. This year, MAPCO and PayPal are teaming up to give free gas to some lucky drivers in the Nashville area who are preparing for Thanksgiving—one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Two MAPCO gas giveaway locations have been designated to reward customers on Nov. 22-23 with a whopping $1 off per gallon of gas up to 10 gallons when they use the new MY MAPCO app and pay with PayPal.

  • Hendersonville, Tenn. (1187 W Main St)
  • Franklin, Tenn. (1100 Hillsboro Rd.)

“MAPCO is working with PayPal to gear customers up for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We know a lot of people go on the road and travel and we want to get them off and going on the right foot,” Howard Curtis, director of marketing and customer relationship management for MAPCO told CSD. “Nashville comprises a good portion of our stores and we really wanted to get some awareness out around MobilePay with PayPal.”

MAPCO officially rolled out its mobile app with PayPal to 276 participating MAPCO stations in the southeast U.S. on Aug. 26.

Mobile Payment

Once the customer arrives at the pump at their local MAPCO and opens the app, the app recognizes which pump the customer is at using geolocation. The customer confirms his or her pump location, and then pays via PayPal through the app. They only have to leave their car to pump the gas.

“We’re continuing to seek ways to enhance convenience at our location. By way of paying though your mobile phone you can do that from the safety and convenience of your car,” Curtis said. “We want to be seen and know for something different than our competition and we want to enhance the reason customers are coming to us in the first place and that is for convenience. Whether it’s to pick up gas or to get groceries or goodies.”

“MAPCO chose to partner with PayPal because PayPal is probably the most credible and legitimate payment service out there, as well as the most well-known, so it only made sense to partner with the best. We felt that that kind of name recognition around payment would help consumers adopt this payment form more quickly,” Curtis concluded.

Customers, who aren’t located in the Nashville area, can still enjoy cents off at the pump when they use the mobile app and pay with PayPal. MAPCO offers three cents off per gallon, while PayPal is offering two cents off per gallon for a total of five cents off per gallon of gasoline.
