Exploring e-commerce system in Las Vegas, and plans to open more stores.
Fresh & Easy plans to close 50 stores in three states, and is testing a new e-commerce business model, according to TheReporter.com
Fresh & Easy is testing a new version of “modern convenience,” through an e-commerce system called “Click and Collect,” in Las Vegas.
The company is also revamping its food manufacturing business. The stores that are being closed “do not meet the criteria” of the new model. The chain still plans to invest in new types of stores, including a 3,000-5,000-square-foot location. Fresh & Easy is working with ADMI, the firm that designed the Apple Store, to design new grocery stores for the chain, according to TheReporter.com.
The chain is now owned by the private equity group Yucaipa, which acquired the 120 stores in September 2013 from Tesco.
