New Salem convenience store infringes upon 7-Eleven trademark, and 7-Eleven fights back.
Less than a month after pressing charges against a New Salem food mart, 7-Eleven has won the battle over trademark infringement. On Monday, June 22, 2015, Judge John Jones III ruled that the Super 7 Food Mart’s signage was too similar to that of the well known convenience store, 7-Eleven, reported The Patriot-News.
According to a report by The Patriot-News, it was not only that both store logos contained that iconic “7,” but also the colors, fonts, design and the shape of the signs were much too similar. After the ruling, Super 7 Food Mart is now forbidden to use, not only their signs, but the colors of the signs as well. Any logo that contains more than one of the colors found in the 7-Eleven sign will be considered a trademark infringement in this case. Super 7 Food Mart is now required to turn over all signage, wrappers, labels and any other materials that sport this store’s logo or colors to be destroyed by 7-Eleven.
