New Corner Store quickly builds a relationship with the community, by donating to the local high school.
Corner Store’s newest store opened its doors today, July 23, 2015, in Tomball, Texas. As part of the grand opening celebration, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, and donations were made to Tomball high school. The new store is the first to sell Phillips 66 fuel as part of a new co-branding relationship between the two companies.
The move adds Phillips 66 to Corner Store’s diversifying fuel offerings and gives Corner Store the ability to share branding space on the fuel canopy to gain increased visibility for its popular Corner Store brand.
At Thursday’s ribbon-cutting, Pete Linton, regional vice president for CST Brands, Corner Store’s parent company, presented Tomball High School with a check for $2,500 and Jeff Denzer of Phillips 66 presented the high school with a $500 gift card for fuel.
“At Corner Store, we want to be team players in the communities we serve,” said Kim Lubel, president and CEO of CST Brands. “Our Team Members (employees) build strong relationships with customers, and we are excited to meet and get to know the wonderful people in the neighborhoods surrounding our newest Tomball Corner Store.”
Bruce Hillegiest, president of the Tomball Chamber of Commerce, Tomball High School Principal Greg Quinn and other community members attended the ceremony. Patrons who visited the store from 9 am to 12 pm walked away with free samples of fresh-baked sausage kolaches and cookies, a free fountain drink or premium coffee and coupons.
At 4,650 square feet, the new Tomball Corner Store features a large, spacious format, eight fueling stations, a diesel truck island and RedBox. Joyce Fasullo will serve as store manager.
New-to-industry stores like the one in Tomball are typically larger with ample parking, colorful and spacious design, and a wider variety of food options. Most are equipped with kitchens to prepare breakfast tacos with homemade tortillas, empanadas, whoopie pies, cookies, donuts, savory kolaches and other items in the store’s signature food line.
Other options include grilled sausages and all-beef hot dogs with white or wheat buns, fresh-cut fruit and salads. In addition, the store will carry Corner Store’s signature brand of nuts and snack mixes, UForce energy and sport drinks and premium coffee.
The average new-to-industry Corner Store rings up close to twice the volume of fuel and merchandise as a legacy store in the U.S. network. CST Brands plans to continue its growth in 2015 with the building of 45 to 50 new-to-industry stores in the U.S. and Canada.
With nearly 1,900 sites in the United States and Canada and nearly $12.8 billion in revenues in 2014, CST Brands is one of the largest independent retail and wholesale distributors of motor fuel and convenience merchandise, freshly prepared food and other services in North America.
