Family Express is acquiring the former Urschel Laboratories site at the corner of Vale Park Road and Calumet Avenue in Valparaiso, Ind.
It plans to demolish and restore the site over the next three months.
Indiana 105.5 FM Radio reported Family Express plans to build a colonial prototype store on the property near the roundabout and plans to further develop the rest of the property later on. Family Express plans to design the store using Valparaiso High School’s school colors.
The company recently introduced a similar themed-concept celebrating Purdue’s legacy at the outskirts of the university’s main campus in West Lafayette. “The Purdue themed concept has been exciting and fun. We felt that for as long as the community is supportive, we would like to develop a similar concept in our hometown, celebrating ‘Valpo Vikings,’ and thus showcase community pride for one of our treasured institutions,” Gus Olympidis, president and CEO of Family Express told Indiana 105.5.
Family Express was recently named Convenience Store Decisions’ 2015 Convenience Store Chain of the Year.
