Newcastle has brought home two gold medals and a silver for its English ales.
Newcastle Brown Ale’s portfolio of English ales has been awarded three medals in the 2015 World Beer Championships hosted by Tastings.com.
Newcastle “Foreign Extra” IPA and Newcastle Scotch Ale won gold while Newcastle Brown Ale took home silver.
Founded in 1994, The World Beer Championships is the nation’s oldest international beer competition. The medal-based competition is open to all commercially produced beers from around the world and relies on a blind tasting methodology developed by Tastings.com. Beers are rated on a 100-point quality rating scale.
Tastings.com provided the following reviews of Newcastle Brown Ale’s award-winning beers:
91 | Newcastle “Foreign Extra” IPA – Bright golden amber color. Lively, earthy, grassy herbal aromas of tropical fruit pastry, flan and saltine with a velvety, crisp, finely carbonated, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a warming, interesting, medium-length peppered greens, citrus peels, pine and spiced nuts finish. A bright zesty English IPA with a fruity nod to the states.
90 | Newcastle Scotch Ale – Clear bronze color. Lively, attractive aromas of chocolate nuts, fig pastry, and spice with a glycerous, crisp, finely carbonated, off-dry medium body and a tingling, complex, medium-long lemon peppercorn muffin, roasted grains and nuts, peppered greens and minerals finish. A superbly balanced and vivacious Scottish ale.
85 | Newcastle Brown Ale – Pale mahogany color. Bright, dank, hoppy herbal aromas of light skunky cannabis, fresh buttered baguette, chocolate and apple-banana pastry with a satiny, soft, finely carbonated, dry-yet-fruity light body and a smooth, brisk starfruit, honey and radish sprouts finish. A lively, highly sessionable brown ale.
“It is a true honor to receive this recognition from The World Beer Championships, one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world,” said Priscilla Dohnert, brand director. “These medals further underscore the quality and craftsmanship of the Newcastle Brown Ale portfolio and reinforce the brand’s commitment to producing a range of sessionable, authentic British beers that deliver exceptional experiences to our customers and consumers.”
Newcastle Brown Ale’s award -winning offerings, Newcastle Brown Ale, Newcastle Scotch Ale and Newcastle Foreign Extra IPA, can be purchased nationally in the Newcastle Best of Britain Variety Pack – Batch 2, which includes four bottles of each offering and is available through Spring 2016.
