Three new Big Y locations will soon be up and running as a part of the company’s expansion efforts.
Big Y Foods Inc. has purchased three O’Connell Convenience Plus gas stations in an effort to expand its Big Y Express Gas and Convenience concept.
The three O’Connell Convenience Plus stations, which are currently branded as Shell stations, are located at 75 Russell St., Hadley, Mass., 711 Bliss Road, Longmeadow, Mass. and 1993 Boston Road, Wilbraham, Mass. All three of these locations are either adjacent to or near existing Big Y markets.
Big Y is expected to begin operation of these locations in late January, and rebranding will occur throughout the winter months. Current O’Connell employees are being offered the opportunity to apply and interview with Big Y.
In addition to the expansion, Big Y has long-term plans to expand and renovate some existing stores.
Big Y was founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D’Amour, and the chain now consists of 63 supermarkets throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts with more than 10,000 employees.
