After banking industry sources found that a number of cards that suffered fraud had all been recently used at Wendy’s locations, Wendy’s admits it’s investigating a potential breach.
Fast-food chain Wendy’s is the latest business to find itself investigating claims of a potential credit card breach at a number of its locations.
KrebsOnSecurity reported that the admission came after KrebsOnSecurity questioned the chain about banking industry sources who discovered a pattern of fraud on cards that were all recently used at various Wendy’s locations.
Bob Bertini, a spokesperson for Wendy’s told KrebsOnSecurity that it the company began receiving reports earlier this month from its payment industry contacts about a potential breach. The restaurant chain responded by hiring a security firm to investigate the claims. He noted it is too soon to tell if the incident is contained, which stores it may have impacted and how long it lasted.
The Wendy’s has approximately 6,500 franchise and company-operated restaurants in the U.S. and 28 countries and U.S. territories worldwide.
