Company names new appointments amid Dennis Armstrong’s retirement.
The J.M. Smucker Co. announced that Dennis Armstrong, senior vice president, supply chain logistics and operations support, will be retiring on Sept. 30, 2016, following 37 years with the company.
Armstrong has served in a number of leadership roles during his career with the company in logistics, operations and purchasing.
“During his 37 years of dedicated service to the company, Denny’s deep supply chain knowledge, operational expertise, and strong leadership have greatly benefitted Smucker,” said Richard Smucker, CEO. “We appreciate all of Denny’s contributions, which were integral to the Company’s growth and success. We thank Denny for his many outstanding achievements and wish him the best in the years to come.”
The company also announced the following appointments to replace Armstrong effective May 1, 2016:
James Day (Randal) will assume the role of senior vice president, operations. Day is currently vice president, coffee operations. Day has been with the company for 27 years.
Robert Ferguson will assume the role of senior vice president, supply chain. Ferguson is currently vice president, integrated business and program management and has been with the company since the 2015 acquisition of Big Heart Pet Brands where he held leadership roles for seven years with Big Heart and Del Monte Foods Inc.
Day and Ferguson will report to Mark Smucker as members of his executive leadership team effective May 1, 2016, when Smucker assumes the role of president and CEO.

Armstrong
Dennis Armstrong has been senior vice president, supply chain logistics and operations support since 2009. Prior to that time, he served as vice president, logistics and operations support; director of operations, corporate; director, Scottsville Operations; director, strategic supply chain initiatives; director, corporate purchasing; general manger, Canada; manager of operations; manager of beverage operations; and logistics manager, plant manager, New Bethlehem Operations. He began his career at Smucker in 1979.
Day
James Day has been vice president, coffee operations since 2014. Prior to that time, he served in a variety of operations leadership roles within the coffee, consumer foods, and natural foods businesses. He began his career with Smucker in 1988 as a process engineer at a fruit processing facility.
Ferguson
Robert Ferguson has been vice president, integrated business and program management since 2015. Prior to that time, he held various leadership roles in supply chain and operations including vice president, value engineering and customer service at Big Heart Pet Brands and at Del Monte Foods Inc. He was also a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He began his career at Smucker in 2015.
