NACS asks retailers to send letters to help delay the final rule on overtime pay.
The Department of Labor (DOL) has taken the final step in the regulatory process before it may issue a new final rule governing overtime pay, the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) reported.
DOL’s draft proposal on the overtime pay rules would more than double the salary threshold—the salary level under which an employee is paid for overtime when s/he works more than 40 hours in one week—and could be very damaging to many in the convenience store industry.
Recently, Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) introduced S. 2707 and Representative Tim Walberg (R-MI) and John Kline (R-MN) introduced H.R. 4773—both called the Protecting American Workplace Advancement and Opportunity Act—which would direct DOL to go back to the drawing board with the overtime proposal.
NACS is asking retailers to send their Senators and Representatives a letter asking them to co-sponsor this legislation. The pre-drafted, editable letter is available here.
