VERC Enterprises has committed to hiring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to comprise a significant portion of its workforce.
VERC Enterprises has announced that its Marlborough Gulf, Mass. location was recently awarded a 2016 Accommodation Award by the MetroWest Work Opportunities Coalition. This award was granted to the company in recognition of its efforts to hire individuals with disabilities.
The Coalition is an association of agencies in MetroWest Massachusetts that provide job placement services to those with disabilities. It annually recognizes companies that hire people with disabilities and provide accommodations for them in the workplace.
VERC Enterprises was honored by the Coalition at a ceremony held on May 9 at Ken’s Steak House in Framingham, Mass. Accepting the award on behalf of VERC Enterprises was Marlborough Gulf Store manager Michael Johnston.
Anthony Sirignano, chair of the MetroWest Work Opportunities Coalition, lauded Johnston for commitment to one employee in particular who recently worked several months at the 410 Lakeside Avenue location in Marlborough. Sirignano also pointed to VERC Enterprise’s pledge to ensuring that 20% of its workforce is comprised of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“It is a privilege to be named a recipient of the Accommodation Award from the MetroWest Work Opportunities Coalition,” said Leo Vercollone, president of VERC Enterprises. “We are proud of our commitment to employ those in our communities with developmental challenges; it is a devotion we plan on honoring for many years to come.”
