Kum & Go’s new Marketplace design prototype in the Iowa City area offers unique amenities that make it unlike any store in the area.
On Thursday, May 12, Kum & Go opened the doors of its newly built store in Coralville, Iowa. The new store, located at 822 1st Avenue, features the brand’s new 6,200+-square-foot Marketplace design prototype.
Customers will now have access to a variety of unique offerings that make this store unlike any other in the Iowa City area.
To encourage customers to try out some of the new offerings, the first 99 customers to arrive on Friday morning received a coupon for a 99-cent whole pizza. On Friday, May 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Coralville brewery Back Pocket Brewing was on hand to host a beer sampling, and Kalona Brewing Co. hosted a sampling event on Saturday, May 14, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both breweries have packaged beer available in the beer cave and each have a keg available at the growler station.
Developing this distinctive store model took nearly two years, and the result is an entirely new concept. The centerpiece of the store is an expanded and open food preparation area that customers can see from the moment they enter. Other location features include:
- Elevated food experience with Kum & Go’s “Go Fresh Market”
- Open kitchen layout, clear aisles and easy-to-navigate zones
- Seating inside with heated patio seating outside
- Complimentary Wi-Fi and charging stations for customers
- Expansive beer cave and growler station with fresh beer
- Designed for LEED-certified status, using energy efficient and sustainable design practices
“This new footprint represents everything that Kum & Go strives to be for our associates and for our customers,” said Kum & Go president and CEO Kyle Krause. “This is the evolution of our brand promise and business approach. Now customers can truly experience the “more” that we provide.”
To celebrate the opening, Kum & Go made a $1,000 contribution to Family Resource Center at Coralville Central Elementary School. The program partners with families and the community to help students achieve increased school attendance, enhanced pro-social behaviors, increased school connectedness and increased academic achievement.
Kum & Go now operates nine stores in the Iowa City area.
Future locations of this new layout are planned for 2016 in Iowa, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Missouri and Arkansas.
