The SUA has raised concern about the state of America’s sugar policy.
Recent action taken by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to increase raw sugar supplies to meet market demand has been met with approval from the Sweetener Users Association (SUA).
The SUA released the following statement in regards to the recent action:
“We welcome action taken today by USDA to increase raw sugar supplies by 200,000 tons. This is an important step forward as part of the agency’s mandate to ensure adequate supplies of sugar at reasonable prices. Based on market demand, this is a much-needed increase.
“Given the uncertainty in the U.S. sugar market caused by America’s broken sugar policy, U.S. sweetener users will be keeping a close eye on the supply situation over the next few months to assess the need for additional imports.
“We applaud the efforts of a bipartisan group of lawmakers, led by senator Shaheen and representative Pitts, in pressing USDA to increase the tariff rate quota for raw sugar.”
