The proceeds from this year’s Corner Store Country Run will benefit the Big Btothers Big Sisters program.
On Aug. 6, 2016, San Antonio, Texas-based CST Brands will be hosting its second annual Corner Store Country Run in Syracuse, N.Y. This year’s run will be held at Onondaga Community College at 8:30 a.m.
The 2016 run is presented by Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes and net proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, the world’s largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network, as well as The House of the Good Shepherd, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Upstate Foundation, Canastota Children’s Council, Paige’s Butterfly Run and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York.
The series has raised a net total of $2.6 million for Big Brothers Big Sisters in the U.S. and Canada, as well as local children’s charities in each of the 10 race markets.
This year’s 5K will once again offer a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, with optional chip timing. Runners will have the option to help raise funds from friends and family for the race beneficiaries. Additional revenues come from participant registrations, corporate sponsors and Corner Store and Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes customers who donate at the register in participating locations.
The Corner Store Country Run 5K features a farm-themed course with hay bales, a tire obstacle, tractors and giant inflatable cows, pigs and chickens. Participants dress the part in Western wear, overalls, cowboy hats and farm animal costumes. After the run, folks are invited to stick around for a free country fair featuring Chris Taylor and the Custom Taylor Band, carnival games, face painting, snacks, free sponsor swag and a beer garden.
In addition, all participants will receive a branded T-shirt, backpack and blue finisher ribbon. For timed runners, prizes will be awarded to the fastest finishers in several categories.
