Consumers who order online can now pick up their items at drop-off lockers outside 7-Eleven stores.
Following a successful test run in Chicago, UPS has announced that it will be installing 300 locker pickup locations across the U.S.
UPS uses these locker locations as drop-off points for packages ordered online, and customers then have 24/7 access to their orders at these lockers. Business Insider reported that customers may use their personalized PIN codes to retrieve their orders from the lockers.
Business Insider reported that these new lockers will be located outside of 7-Eleven stores.
According to the report from Business Insider, UPS has announced that the new locker locations will soon be installed in Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. The company also intends to rollout lockers in other states at a later time.
These new lockers are an extension of UPS’ current Access Point program. With the Access Point program, UPS pays retailers to act as pickup locations for online shoppers. Business Insider reported that UPS currently has approximately 8,000 Access Points in the U.S. and 24,000 globally.
