McDonald’s responds to the shift in consumer taste toward healthier foods by overhauling its menu.
McDonald’s has announced that there are some big changes coming to its famous fast food items.
According to a report from The Huffington Post McDonald’s is officially revamping the way it makes its food items as a part of the company’s drive to appeal to the health-conscious consumer.
The Huffington Post reported that some of the major changes that have been made include:
- The corn syrup in hamburger buns has been replaced with sugar
- Antibiotics that are important to human medicine have been removed from its chicken
- Artificial preservatives have been removed from Chicken McNuggets and several breakfast items, including scrambled eggs.
- Chicken skin, safflower oil and citric acid have been removed from the meat of its McNuggets. These ingredients have been replaced with pea starch, rice starch and powdered lemon juice
The above mentioned changes will affect about half of the company’s menu, The Huffington Post reported. More menu adjustments may soon follow.
The company has stated that any extra costs related to the changes will not be passed on to consumers; however, the company expects that the U.S. restaurant industry will raise prices this year in an effort to balance out the higher worker wages.
