Cross reference your accounts payable file to the employee payroll file.
If there is a way for employees to be dishonest, many of them will find it, and running this simple check can ensure you’re not being swindled by your own staff.
For example, a chain several years ago found out that a store manager who had some buying power created a fake account for purchasing some cleaning supplies. Every month she claimed she was ordering supplies and then she submitted a fake bill, which was promptly paid by the main office. The check was going right to her house every month. When the employer ran a crosscheck of address of their payroll and their accounts payable, they discovered this little rouse and the employee admitted her scheme. If it happened here, you can be sure it is happening somewhere else.
