Customers lined up to taste-test new products at the Consumer’s Choice Contest hosted at a truenorth convenience store.
Convenience Store Decisions (CSD) has announced the winners of the second-annual Consumer’s Choice New Products Contest.
The product contest, hosted by Truenorth Energy, took place on Thursday, July 28, in the parking lot of a truenorth convenience store in Medina, Ohio. Customers and passersby sampled and evaluated more than 60 product SKUs that spanned 12 categories, rating the items on taste/quality, innovation and uniqueness, and likeliness to buy. The foodservice category was also rated on its portability.
In the bars category:
- Detour- Simple Salted Caramel Cookie Dough Bar won for taste/quality.
- General Mills- Nature Valley Biscuits w/ Almond Butter, won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Mars-Goodnessknows Snack Squares- Very Cranberry, won for likeliness to buy.
In the chocolate candy category:
- Mars- Snicker Crisper won for taste/quality.
- Hershey-Reese’s Pieces Peanut Butter Cups won for uniqueness/innovation.
- Road Crew Crunch- Milk Chocolate Mile won for likeliness to buy.
In the non-chocolate candy category:
- Mondelez International- Stride Iceberg Mint Gum won for taste/quality.
- Wrigley- Starburst Gummies won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Wrigley-Skittles America Mix won for likeliness to buy.
In the carbonated beverages category:
- Frostop- Rootbeer won for taste/quality.
- Voss Water- Flavored Sparkling- Tangerine Lemongrass won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Voss Water- Flavored Sparkling- Tangerine Lemongrass won for likeliness to buy.
In the energy category:
- Tweaker Extra Strength Watermelon was the winner in all three categories.
In the foodservice category:
- AdavancePierre Foods- BIG AZ Sriracha Glazed Chicken Sandwich won for taste/quality.
- Johnsonville Sausage- Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Don Miguel – Chicken Chipotle Chicken BOMB Burrito won for likeliness to buy.
- Tyson- Chicken Sandwich won for portability.
In the healthy category:
- Bay Valley- McCann’s Quick & Fast Steel Cut Oatmeal Cups won for taste/quality.
- Reichel Foods- ProSnax Sweet Gala Apples & Almonds won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Organic Valley- Stringles- Mozzarella Cheese won for likeliness to buy.
In the juice category:
• Britvic- Fruit Shoot Orange Mango was the winner across all three categories.
In the meat snacks category:
- Old Wisconsin- Original Stick won for taste/quality.
- Chef’s Cut – Bacon Jerky won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Tyson- Ball Park Flame Grilled Jerky won for likeliness to buy.
In the non-carbonated beverage category:
- Whitewave- Stok Cold Brew Iced Coffee (Black) won for taste/quality.
- Chobani- Drinkable Yogurt won for uniqueness and innovation.
- Nestlé- Nesquik Protein Plus- Chocolate won for likeliness to buy.
In the salty snacks category:
- Good Foods-Chunky Guacamole won for taste/quality.
- Gehl’s- Smoky Bacon Cheddar Cheese Sauce won for uniqueness and innovation.

In the sweet snacks category:
