A mobile convenience store is offering a new level of convenience to students at Wichita State.
Students and staff at the Wichita State Metropolitan Complex now have access to a new convenience store concept.
According to a new report from The Sunflower, this new convenience store literally rolled onto campus in mid-September to offer a variety of drinks and snacks near the bus stop at the Metroplex. This new store concept is anything but the traditional c-store concept, as it is actually a shuttle bus that has been converted into a convenience store.
This shuttle does not provide transportation to the main campus of Wichita State, it stays at the Metropolitan Complex, offering snacks and drinks to those waiting on the shuttle bus. According to The Sunflower, the bus/store runs Monday-Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m., while classes are in session.
This new convenience store is creating new competition in the area, as it offers eight different types of coffee, 18 types of cappuccino, donuts, Coke products, four different smoothie/frozen drink options, hot dogs and jalapeno cheddar sausage rolls, energy drinks, tea, water, chips, candy, mints and gum, The Sunflower reported.
According to The Sunflower, the new shuttle bus c-store offers its food and beverage options for prices that are comparable to those of other convenience stores in the area; however, when it comes to variety, the more traditional convenience stores in the area reign supreme, as the shuttle store has limited space, making it impractical to carry the same range of products.
The new shuttle store currently only carries two hot food options, but The Sunflower reported that the store’s owner has plans to offer sandwiches in the near future as well.
