Retail veteran Tony Harris, the former president of Louisville, Ky.-based Thorntons Inc., announced today that he is no longer with the company.
Harris spent 21 of his 23 years in the convenience store industry with Thorntons. He held a variety of positions during his two decades at the chain including stints in technology and operations. He was promoted to chief operating officer in 2011 and became company president in 2014.
“I have enjoyed a wonderful career at Thorntons and couldn’t be more grateful to the Thornton family and all of the team members at Thorntons who have worked so hard to make it the great company that it is today. I’m very anxious and excited to begin the next chapter in my career,” Harris told CSD.
Additionally, Harris served as Chairman of the Board for the National Advisory Group (NAG) from 2014 to 2016. He was succeeded by Peter Tamburro, general manager of Clifford Fuel following the 2016 NAG Conference in September. He currently serves as an outside director for Quarles Petroleum in Fredricksburg, Va.
Harris is a 1993 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in Management Information Systems. He obtained his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 2012.
