Watch out c-stores, Amazon is coming for your brick-and-mortar business.
While rumors have been swirling about Amazon’s brick-and-mortar plans, new details have emerged this week. Reports in Business Insider and Fortune note that Amazon plans to open 2,000 Amazon Fresh grocery stores within the next 10 years. The chain plans to begin with a 20 store pilot program, while it simultaneously testing two alternate store concepts.
One concept would allow customers to pick up items they ordered ahead online. Another would resemble a traditional grocery store and may or may not end up being exclusive to Amazon’s Prime Fresh grocery delivery customers.
The text locations are set to open in 2018 in major cities, such as Seattle, New York and Las Vegas, among others.
