Introduces “Walk Out Technology. ”
Amazon has released new details about its Amazon Go convenience store plans, including the checkout-free way customers can grab and leave with products.
The company is introducing a way for customers to take the products they want from the shelves and exit the store without ever having to go through a checkout where someone manually scan the items.
As reported by NPR, a video put out from Amazon says that the technology used is called “Walk Out Technology” and that the company used “computer vision, deep learning algorithms and sensor fusion much like you’d find in self-driving cars.”
Customers will be automatically billed for the products they take through their Amazon account.
The first location in Seattle is expected to open to the public in 2017.
