Total snack and beverage dollar sales up 3%.
Wells Fargo Securities has released all channel sales results for beverages and snacks ending Dec. 3, 2016. Carbonated soft drink (CSD) declined while beer sales grew and energy sales were “muted.”
All channel dollar sales (including grocery, drug, mass and convenience stores) for the total snack and beverage categories during the four-week period ending Dec. 3, 2016 were up 3%, according to Wells Fargo.
CSD (ex-Energy) dollar sales in all channels were down -0.2% for the same four weeks (+0.2% for 12-weeks; -0.6% for 52-weeks), driven by modest average equal price growth of +0.8% and equal unit volume declines of -0.9%.
Meanwhile, the energy category saw dollar sales growth (ex-Mutant, a CSD) was +5% (+5.2% for 12-weeks; +5.5% for 52-weeks). The beer category also improved. Beer dollar sales in the four-week period were up a solid +3.1% (+2.6% for 12-weeks and +3% for 52-weeks) driven by equal unit growth of +2.4% and +0.7% pricing.
Salty snacks dollar sales increased +2.4% during this period (+3.5% for 12-weeks) on +0.4% equal unit growth and +1.9% equal unit pricing.
