Word of mouth works both ways.

Do you know what people (employees, former employees, vendors and everyone else who knows you) are saying about your company as a place to work? If not, the best way to find out is to ask.

On the other hand, what if an applicant asked you for the names of three employees, two who work for you now and one former employee, how would you respond?
