Customer demand fuels move toward antibiotic free poultry.
Tyson Foods has announced that it plans to eliminate antibiotics from its chicken by the end of 2017, USA Today reported.
Tyson Foods joins competitors like Perdue and Pilgrim’s Pride, as well as fast food chains, including KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King, Panera, Chipotle, Taco Bell and Wendy’s.
Tyson said its antibiotic-free pledge will apply to poultry it sells in supermarkets under it own Tyson label. More companies are making the commitment to antibiotic-free based on the consumer demand for food free of anything ‘unnatural,’ such as antibiotics or preservatives.
