Albertsons joins the race to compete with Amazon Go.

Albertsons Cos. is piloting checkout-free technology, similar to Amazon Go, where customers’ selections are automatically rung up as they exit the store.

According to a report by FoodDive, the pilot will test the technology on a limited selection of products such as prepared foods and meal kits.

Albertsons is also testing a similar technology called “One Touch” at the gas pump, which would allow customers to pump gas and exit the lot without a sales transaction.

The pilot is taking place at fuel center in Northern California.

Walmart is also said to be exploring an Amazon Go-like store, as all channels look to master a frictionless experience for the customer.
