Wawa Inc. announced another new store under contract as part of the company’s expansion into Washington, D.C., located at One Thomas Circle, NW.
The site is now under contract with LaSalle Investment Management.
“We are excited to announce another location for a new D.C. Wawa as we continue to expand into the Capital region and bring our unique food and beverage offer, store design and experience to more members of the community,” said Adam Schall, Sr. Director of Store Operations. “This site is another optimal location for us to bring our unique offer to the D.C. area, and we couldn’t be more excited to serve this community.”
Wawa’s Thomas Circle Washington, D.C., store will be the latest in Wawa’s offering with an upscale urban feel, including customized architectural elements.
Highlights of the store will include Wawa’s signature foods and specialty beverages along with Wawa’s newest offers, including custom salads and interior seating for customers.
Wawa hopes to begin construction on the new store by the end of August.
“With the emergence of the 14th Street corridor over the past few years, One Thomas Circle provides a very unique retail opportunity due to its nearby proximity to both office and residential markets” said Shaun Broome, Sr. Vice President of LaSalle Investment Management. “Office tenants today demand fast casual food in a fun atmosphere, and Wawa successfully delivers on those qualities through its unique offering.”
The fifth D.C. Wawa is set to open in late September and will feature the first night-time grand opening ceremony in the company’s history.
Wawa currently plans to open more than 30 stores in the mid-Atlantic and more than 30 new stores in the Florida market each year for the next several years. Each new Wawa store will employ nearly 40 associates, with Wawa’s urban models employing up to 90 associates per store.
All of these associate roles are new positions brought to the area through the development of the stores. Associates in these full- and part-time positions will receive competitive salaries and health benefits, and associates who meet eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to become participants in Wawa’s employee stock ownership plan.
Pennsylvania-based Wawa operates more than 840 c-stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.
