For the second consecutive year, a professional driver from Core-Mark International has been recognized as one of the nation’s best private fleet truck drivers.
Patrick Fay of Glidden, Iowa, a 21-year employee of Core-Mark’s Farner-Bocken division, was one of 23 people named a National Driver All-Star by the National Private Truck Council (NPTC). Each honoree demonstrated high-performance standards against peer drivers throughout the U.S. based on customer service, safety, adherence to company standards, regulatory compliance and community service.
A professional truck driver since 1983, Patrick has logged more than 2 million accident-free miles and has never received a speeding ticket during more than two decades of service with Core-Mark/Farner-Bocken. He currently pulls a 53-foot tractor trailer on the night shift, delivering a wide range of products to convenience store distribution centers throughout the Midwest.
“Pat is one of the industry’s finest drivers and we are proud he has received this well-deserved honor,” said Andy Newkirk, Core-Mark vice president of operations. “A talented professional and mentor to younger drivers, he exemplifies Core-Mark’s commitment to integrity and customer-centric service to each of our convenience retail clients.”
Highly regarded for being focused on safety, Patrick currently serves on the Farner-Bocken safety committee, which reviews all driver incidents and accidents. He is a participant in Highway Watch, which is a program that trains drivers to be on the lookout for human trafficking. He is CPR-certified, as well.
Patrick also serves his local community. A volunteer firefighter in Glidden for 14 years, he is a certified safety trainer to new and existing firefighters. He has also been a member of the Glidden City Council since 2012, where he places a particular emphasis on pedestrian and motorist safety. He and his wife, Kandy, have two children and three grandchildren.
The annual National Driver All-Star award is co-sponsored by NPTC and International Truck/Navistar Inc. Pat and the other 2019 honorees received their awards in September during the NPTC’s National Safety Conference event in Orlando, Fla.
Joe Coleman of Portland, Oregon, a 26-year Core-Mark employee , earned a National Driver All-Star award in 2018.
