In a competitive labor market, companies are focusing on attaining and retaining quality employees.
Wawa convenience stores has announced that it will be raising its starting wages, as well as increasing the wages of its current employees.
According to a report from The Morning Call, the convenience chain is raising wages for its customer service associates to $10 per hour, along with increasing wages for shift supervisors to $13 and for assistant general managers to $17. In addition to raising the company minimum wages, all employees will receive a 5% wage increase, on top of the annual merit increase that was provided this year.
The move is being made in order to retain quality employees and to gain new ones when necessary, a tactic that a number of companies have recently adopted.
Sheetz, just days prior, had announced a wage increase to $15 per hour for its employees.
