Dutch retail group Ahold said it plans to expand its Giant chain in the U.S. with the launch of Giant and Go convenience stores, Just-Food reported.

A spokesperson for the company told a Just-Food reporter that the new format, which will be launched in Lancaster, Pa., will feature eight fuel pumps and a selection of products for immediate consumption and "take-home" inside.

“This new Lancaster location is a natural extension of our success with offering gas to our customers. Giant successfully operates 63 fueling stations across the chain," the spokesperson told just-food.

The company said the Giant and Go outlet was being run on a trial basis, and added that it currently has no plans to open further stores. But the spokesperson added: "We will evaluate the success of our Lancaster County location and make a determination on our future plans from there.”

Ahold’s U.S. operations include Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover, Giant-Carlisle and Tops food companies.
