Supermarket chain Albertsons has introduced a prototype c-store concept in Boise, Idaho.
According to a report in Supermarket News, Albertsons has introduced an upgraded fuel center and convenience store called Albertsons Express near its headquarters in Boise, Idaho. The store features prepared deli foods and a drive through.
Six years ago, Albertsons’ parent company Supervalu divested 107 of Albertsons 134 fuel centers. An Albertsons spokesperson told Supermarket News that the Boise Albertsons Express is currently the only one of its kind.
While Albertsons and its sister banner Safeway both operate fuel centers with c-stores, the 3,100-square-foot Boise Albertsons Express offers a range of unique items and could signal that Albertsons is considering making c-stores more of a focus. Those items include fresh-cut fruits and veggies, fresh-made deli sandwiches and salads, private label grocery items and a large wine section, just to name a few. Meanwhile the fuel center offers five grades of fuel for customers to choose from, including ethanol-free unleaded gas.
